VATSIM Moscow Regional air traffic management center is responsible for flights over most of the territory of central Russia on a total area of more than 700,000 square kilometers - from Rybinsk to Voronezh and Belgorod from north to south and from Belarus to Nizhny Novgorod from the west to the east.
Thousands of flights are performed daily in the area of responsibility of the Moscow Center, including a lot of international.
The total length of airways is more than 35,000 km, the number of various civil and military airfields is more than 100.
Moscow TMA, also located on the territory of the regional center, includes three largest airports in Russia - Moscow Sheremetyevo, Vnukovo and Domodedovo.
This is the most difficult and busiest airspace in Russia and CIS. Moscow airports have Point Merge System procedures that simplify the approach sequence. Large number of prohibited zones and flight restrictions requires a high level of training from air traffic controllers.
In real life, 27 sectors of the area control center and 22 approach, radar and director sectors of the TMA control center are responsible for ensuring flight safety.
In VATSIM, we also have the ability to put online different sectors if necessary.
Use the interactive map at the link on your flights if you see several Moscow-Control positions in operation.
Since 2020, the western part of Russia, including Moscow, has introduced New airspace structure and has started to perform flights using altitudes in feet at QNH pressure. Moscow TMA establishes a single transition altitude for all airfields of 10,000 feet, and the transition level varies from FL110 to FL130, depending on the QNH of Vnukovo, as the highest one.
In addition to the largest Moscow airports, TMA has airfields for state and experimental aviation, such as Ostafyevo, Ramenskoye, Chkalovsky.
Small aircraft fly from countless general aviation airfields. Many of them are well implemented on our map, where you will find links to scenarios for various simulators.
For the X-Plane 11 simulator, the x-flight team prepared an excellent photo background covering almost the entire Moscow TMA. You can find it at the link.
For those who like simulators from Lockheed Martin and Microsoft, there are also Moscow City X add-on for Prepar3D of all versions and Moscow Landmarks for MSFS.
In the area of responsibility of the regional center there are 8 more international airports: Nizhny Novgorod, Voronezh, Belgorod, Yaroslavl, Bryansk, Kaluga, Kursk and Lipetsk.
