URSS / AER

Description

Sochi International Airport named after V. I. Sevastyanov is the international airport of Sochi, Krasnodar Krai. The largest hub of local and international airlines in the Southern Federal District of Russia.

It serves the largest Russian resort, its agglomeration (including Tuapse), other gravitating territories and Abkhazia with a total permanent population of about 245 thousand inhabitants. It has the status of an airport of federal significance.

The airport ranks 5th in the country in terms of passenger turnover (6,772,062 passengers) after Moscow Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, Vnukovo and St. Petersburg Pulkovo. The distance from the airport to Moscow is about 1360 km, the flight time is 2 hours.

Sochi first class airfield has two artificial runways, a network of taxiways with a total length of 4310 m with a width of 40.5 m, an apron and parking areas with a total area of 219 thousand sq. m. Sochi Airport is certified by the IAC Aviation Register for suitability for international flights. Since 2007, it has been suitable for operation of all types of aircraft, including: A-330 and its modifications, Boeing-747, Boeing-777 (-200, -300, -200LR, -300ER).

Since October 19, 2014, the "open sky" mode ("fifth degree of air freedom") has been operating at the airport, which allowed opening many new international destinations. With this degree of freedom, foreign companies can land in Russia and take passengers and cargo when flying to a third country from the country in which they are registered.

In 2015, Sochi Airport, along with Sheremetyevo and Pulkovo, was recognized by the International Council of Airports as the best in Europe in terms of service level.

Features

Attention!

RNAV STARs have been introduced at Sochi airport for a long time, but, unfortunately, we must admit that until now 90% of pilots cannot correctly perform the ILS Z approach procedure. This is caused either by ignorance of their aircraft, or by the inability to read the approach chart. Let's analyze the actions of the pilot on the example of the approach of the ILS Z runway 02 from the AG point. To perform this procedure, the flight is performed along the arrival route AG3A, then directly entering ILS Z for runway 02. It is not enough to select the approach data in the FMC, but it is also necessary to correctly select the TRANS point. If no instructions have been received from the ATC, then the STAR is carried out completely (highlighted in red) through the GOKIN point. The dotted lines indicate "in agreement with the Department of Internal Affairs." I.e., flight along these trajectories is prohibited without agreement with the ATC. The absolute majority of pilots, violating the approach pattern, after passing the KOGUL point, flies directly to the SS022 or SS023 point. By such actions, you create a threat of collision with departing aircraft.
