Samara Regional Center of United Air Traffic Management of VATSIM network is a sub-division of VATRUS and a part of Western Russia region, which also includes the territories of Moscow Regional ATM Center, Minsk Zonal ATM Center which includes the entire territory of Republic of Belarus.
Today, an area of responsibility of Samara Regional Center is the airspace over the territories of 5 republics (Tatarstan, Mari El, Bashkortostan, Mordovia, Chuvashia) and 5 regions (Orenburg, Samara, Saratov, Ulyanovsk and Penza), with a total area of about 600 thousand square kilometers.
There is a sectorization provided for Samara Control which could be put in force in case of high traffic load. If you see several Samara Control positions online - you can check correct station for your current position using our interactive map.
A total length of air routes is more than 27.5 thousand kilometers, of which more than 23 thousand kilometers are international. The structure of the airspace includes 17 civil airports (of which 11 are international) and 23 airfields of state and experimental aviation. At the same time, a large number of airfields and landing sites for general aviation are available. Also, the said territory includes dozen of training airfields of Russian flight schools, like UСAI, BFSCA, SPSUCA and KKFSCA.
Since 2020, Samara Regional Center, like the entire western part of Russia, has switched to using altitudes in feet and QNH. Each airfield has a fixed transition altitude in feet, but a transition level can change depending on the current QNH. The exception is the Ufa airfield (UWUU), where transition level is fixed at FL70.
Almost all airfields located within Samara Regional Center have been sucesfully represented in all known civil flight simulators, from FS9 to MSFS2020. You can find different scenery options (both paid and free) for your own simulator on a separate webpage of each specific airfield - please see a list of available airfields and respective links below.
From VATSIM flights perspectives, one of the main advantages of Samara Regional Center is a Moscow Regional Center located nearby, which is very popular among virtual pilots - that neighborhood allows you to make a short flight from any airport in Moscow to Samara region and back within a few hours only, which is timely comparable to the most popular route among russian simmers - from Moscow to St. Petersburg and back.
But it should be noted that in terms of its beauty, only some of Russian regions can compete with the beauties of Samara region, especially during summer period. For your first flight we recommend to visit Kazan and Samara, both located on the banks of famous Volga River. If you use one of the modern simulators (MSFS2020 or MSFS2024), then you will definitely enjoy the flight from external views perspectives, and you will be looking forward to repeat such a great experience in future.
