Batumi International Airport is the Georgia’s second largest airport, serves charter and regular flights to the Black Sea coast of Georgia. Since the airport is located only 40 kilometers from the Georgian-Turkish border, regional flights from Istanbul are served under a special agreement.
From the east and south, the airport is surrounded by mountains. In this regard, take-off is carried out only with the course of 310, and landing only with the course of 130. Take-off of the course of 130 and landing of the course of 310 are allowed only for aircraft with a maximum take-off weight not exceeding 5700 kilograms during daylight hours under visual weather conditions.
Before taxiing the aircraft crew is required to request an ATC departure clearence. ATC Clearence is to be requested not earlier than 10 minutes before the engines start. ATC clearence, clearence to start engines and taxi instructions are issued on frequency of Batumi-Tower on 118.600. Stands 12 and 12A are used for aircraft de-icing.
Landing on runway 13 and takeoff from runway 31 are permitted only for aircraft with a maximum take-off weight of no more than 5700 kg operating on VFR during daylight hours.
In the airspace of Batumi-Approach (on STARs and SIDs) below flightlevel 110, the crew is required to maintain a speed of no more than 250 knots, unless otherwise instructed by the ATC. Minimum radar separation is 5 nautical miles. ATIS is not provided at the Batumi airport - the ATCO provides information on the weather.
When flying on VFR in the area of responsibility of Batumi ATC constant two-way communication must be maintained. The transmission is at altitude of 1500 feet at the designated points: ABUDO, NINKA, DIDUS.
